About this property

Welcome to The Holiday Chalet

A classic hotel housed in a 19th-century brownstone, The Holiday Chalet offers guests a distinctive Victorian atmosphere with vintage decor throughout. Rooms include flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, as well as practical touches like kitchenettes in some suites. The property operates a self check-in system with electronic key codes, which some guests find convenient although it may not suit those preferring traditional front desk service.

Situated on E Colfax Avenue in Denver, the hotel is located in a laid-back neighborhood known for its mellow cafes, shady park trails, and nearby botanic garden concerts. While some reviews mention that the area can feel gritty and caution about city realities such as displaced individuals, many guests report feeling safe and appreciate the authentic urban vibe. Street parking is available, but there is no dedicated hotel parking.

The location provides easy access to cultural attractions like the Denver Art Museum, Denver Botanic Gardens, and Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Guests looking to explore downtown Denver or attend shows at nearby theaters find the positioning convenient, making it a suitable choice for visitors interested in local arts and entertainment rather than luxury amenities.

Though the hotel has a solid 3.8 rating based on over 300 reviews, guest opinions vary. Some highlight the charm, unique character, and value, especially praising the distinctive architectural details and eclectic rooms. Others note that the building's age shows and the absence of full-service comforts such as daily housekeeping or an on-site concierge. The Holiday Chalet is LGBTQ+ friendly and tends to attract travelers who appreciate historic settings and independent lodging experiences over standard hotel offerings.

This spot is perfect for anyone seeing a show on Colfax. we were 10 minutes from the Ogden. Not sure why previous reviews were ranked so low. our Albert suite no 4 was great! Had a kitchen, microwave, a salon with a chess table and the bathroom had two shower heads?! Water ran hot, the bed was comfy and I fell asleep quickly. There was some noise from other people coming back late but not obnoxious or rude. Keep in mind it is an urban city street with the reality of displaced people and such. I did not feel unsafe walking home from the Ogden either. Happy to stay in the future! Check in and key code entry done via email So if you’re not tech savvy or like stairs from the turn of the century, not for you.

This hotel was such a pleasant surprise. I originally booked it because the rooms are so vintage and gorgeous. When we arrived I thought the outside was to die for. Location is a little bit sketchy but they can’t fix that. And the room was sooooooo gorgeous!!!! It was worth every penny and it’s going to be our new tradition to stay there every year. Thanks Holiday Chalet

I want to first start with discrediting some of the negative reviews. 1) yes it is a little run down. It’s a Victorian building that is more than 140 years old. No duh 2) yes there are homeless people. There is a charity for homeless people right behind the gas station which is across the street. They did not bother me once and other than 1 person who spent one night yelling outside (the hotel did provide ear plugs) we had 0 issues. We parked next to the shelter/charity almost every night and my car was left alone. They are literally just your fellow humans who are down on their luck; try showing some compassion. 3) there is no direct hotel parking but there was plenty of street parking. We were there for 5 days, over a holiday weekend, and never had any problem with parking Now onto the things that matter; It is truly a unique experience meant for people who enjoy whimsy and history. I love history and he loves architecture so this was a perfect hotel. Right center in all the fun things we wanted to do; botanical gardens, zoo, cherry creek shopping, and plenty of parks. If you are wanting a Hyatt experience with a 24/7 concierge, housekeeping every day, a spa, and a continental breakfast in the morning this is not the place for you. We loved the self check in/checkout system with the codes for the front door and our room. The artwork throughout the halls really brought you to what it may have felt like when the house was originally built. The hotel was quiet and we never felt like we had to worry about loud neighbors. The room looked exactly as the pictures online show. The amenities in the bathroom were great and went beyond what I get when I stay at Hilton. The one downside was that our TV didn’t work. We did try texting the number that gave us our code but they either didn’t respond because we did say we didn’t need to fixed during this trip or that number is not textable. Either way we were having too much fun in the city to even care about staying in to watch tv.

This is my 3rd stay here, so that says something! I have stayed in 3 different rooms, and this was the coolest yet! The character and uniqueness of this place are incredible!! Such amazing vibes. Only complaint with the Albert Suite was that we couldn't figure out how to get the heater to work, so my husband was freezing. But maybe we're just dumb..it was absolutely beautiful It's not for everyone, but it's for me! The location is very convenient to both the Fillmore and the Ogden theaters, which is part of the reason we stayed the first time. I will absolutely be back again the next time we go to a show!

This is my third time staying at the holiday chalet I live in Boulder and I have used this wonderful place to stay at during Gay Pride first of all and this past November 2024. I used it for a couple days before I left for Thanksgiving at my dad’s place in California, I have stayed in three different suites. I have loved every single one of them. Each one is extremely unique and gorgeous and so very eclectic. I absolutely love it. Takes you back to another time when rooms were beautiful and they also had full kitchens, gorgeous bathrooms with double showerheads incredibly in laid toilets and tile work painting on the walls are incredible. The chandeliers that hang from each room is just gorgeous. The price is what always gets me. It has been such a great prize for such a wonderful place. Many people said parking was an issue, but I’ve never had a problem parking. Everything is clean the bedding is beautiful. This is an older building and for the price I wouldn’t expect more than what I got. If anything for the money it seems that I was in this gorgeous luxury hotel somewhere in Europe. I’ll be going back again this year in 2025. I run a booth for Gay Pride in Denver and this is always such a wonderful place to stay after working eight hours at the festival. Always nice to come home soak in the bathtub and have a wonderful bed to sleep in before I have to get up and do it again the next day. Tony, The Owner is just amazing and really helped me out when I needed to stay there in November. He has always been very accommodating and helpful and answered all my questions. I’ll add photos when I stay again in June 2025

Staying in the Albert Suite and oh. my. god. I feel like a princess! The room is out of this world, just absolutely beautiful. Check in was unbelievably easy, especially compared to other no contact check ins. A staff member was here when we came in and gave us an extra space heater just in case without us even knowing if we needed it or not. Don’t mind the location, you’ll never want to leave the room. I’ve been dying to stay here forever, and it’s even more like a dream in person!

I had the pleasure of staying at this adorable Victorian hotel for one night. While many have commented in past reviews that the location is sketchy, you have to be aware that you are on Colfax…in Denver. Don’t bother them they won’t bother you. The staff was absolutely amazing and very welcoming when I first arrived they even allowed me to check in 30 minutes early. The room was absolutely adorable and had everything that I needed. Perfect placement down downtown Denver, right by all of the fun bars. Parking is of course parking as it is a city. Overall, I would give this place a 10 out of 10 and I cannot wait to stay there again. Thank you again to Randee for the amazing hospitality.

I hadn't returned home to Denver in forever, and I was worried that all of Colfax had been transmuted into an endless series of upscale eateries and overpriced hipster retailers (like the rest of the city). I was delighted to find that The Holiday Chalet is situated in a little pocket of Colfax that still has the grit that has always made Colfax, Colfax. The Holiday Chalet is charming and full of character. The room was clean and cozy, the bathroom luxurious, and the kitchenette adorable and practical. The folks who run the place are accommodating and very communicative. I'll definitely stay here again, this place rules.
